In the heart of The Medina – the old town center of Tangier, Morocco. Surrounding the Grand Socco, the main market square, there are lots of smaller covered markets selling all sorts of goods imaginable – including fish.

Once you enter the decorated entrance of Marché Central de Poissons – the Tangier Fish Market, you’re met by a bustling hall packed with stalls, friendly fishmongers and local people haggling over boxes and baskets overflowing with freshly caught fish and seafood from the Mediterranean and Atlantic.

Many of the fishmongers display their ware in old-school nets and beautiful arrangements. The atmosphere in the busy market is lively and colorful. I visited the market in late December 2015 and in my mind, it’s a must-see for everyone visiting the historic Moroccan city.
