Western shirt lino print

The finished print framed

Every weekend I try to do a different kind of creative project. This weekend I had a go at lino printing. A part from making cards and wrapping paper this Christmas I haven’t worked with lino print in perhaps 25 years so I was curious I even knew how to.

I decided to make a print of a vintage women’s western shirt. I figured it had both the level of detail and color variation to make it an interesting challenge.

Here’s a little recap on the proces. And of course I ended up with about a million prints (well only 50) so If you’re interested, they’re up for sale. Just get in touch via email.

Sketch. I just found a couple of photos of nice looking vintage western shirts on Etsy.
Cutting away the background on the first sheet of lino.
Test print
Test print of second layer. This was a bit tricky with all the details.
Test print with the two layers. I think the coral red looks pretty good with the green.
Detail of a test print with three colors. I made a couple of extra lino pieces for the shoulders. The real challenge is to align them properly. As you can see, that didn’t happen here 🙂
Here’s another finished 3 color print.
